                                                  LAST MINUTE TAX HELP

                                          Delaware Filing Deadline Monday, May 1   

It's not quite over. Delaware taxpayers have until Monday, May 1 to file their Delaware tax return. Filing on-line or assistance with state tax questions is just a click of the mouse or phone call away.  Or come into any of the three Division of Revenue offices Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Trained staff will answer questions or prepare DE returns at no charge. Bring a copy of your federal return and all applicable documents. (800-292-7826 - in DE only.)

File for a Delaware Extension on-line from the Division of Revenue's web site, only if you expect a refund or zero balance when you file your return. If you owe tax for 1999 you can download Form 1027 from the Division's web site, print it, fill it out, and mail it with your payment. Credit cards not accepted. Filing an extension extends the time to file, NOT the time to pay your tax liability. Payment must accompany the extension.

OTHER LOCATIONS OFFERING ASSISTANCE
Colleges and universities plus many public libraries provide ready Internet access for filing Delaware returns on-line. Call your local library to confirm.

SOME IMPORTANT NUMBERS:
Over 316,500 returns filed to date, over $60m in refund checks issued, $7.8m of refunds directly deposited.
Over 104,600 or 33% of returns to date filed with an electronic method, 135% increase over this time last year.
Over 15,000 on-line returns have been filed to date.
Over 65,000 e-filed returns filed to date, up from 45,000 for all of 1999 and 30,000 for all of 1998.
Over 24,000 bar-coded paper returns have been filed to date.
