WILMINGTON MAN INDICTED ON TAX EVASION CHARGES

(Wilmington, DE) – William M. Remington, Director of Revenue announced today that the Grand Jury for the Superior Court in New Castle County returned an indictment against Kenneth E. Friedman, 48, a self-employed carpet salesman residing in Wilmington, Del.

Friedman was charged with a total of 4 felony counts, two counts of tax evasion and two counts of filing a false tax return, and one misdemeanor count of failure to file a State of Delaware tax return.

The indictment pertains to tax years 1999 and 2000 where false returns were prepared and filed with the Delaware Division of Revenue understating income and expenses pertaining to Friedman’s carpet sales and installation business thereby evading state income tax of $4,456.00 on taxable income of $79,030.00 for 1999 and $7,222.00 on taxable income of $131,838.00 for 2000.

Additionally, Friedman failed to file his 2001 State of Delaware tax return.

The charges against Friedman stem from an investigation conducted by the Delaware Division of Revenue’s Criminal Investigation Unit and referred to the Delaware Attorney General’s office for indictment and prosecution.

Friedman awaits arraignment and trial date in Superior Court in Wilmington.
