WILMINGTON MAN ENTERS GUILTY PLEA ON TAX CHARGES

(Wilmington, DE) – William M. Remington, Director of Revenue announced today that a Wilmington man entered guilty pleas in Superior Court on various tax charges for three consecutive years.

Kenneth E. Friedman, 48, a self-employed carpet salesman, entered guilty pleas to a charge of attempt to evade income taxes for the year 1999; filing a false instrument for the year 2000 and failing to file a personal income tax return for the year 2001.

An order was signed by NCC Superior Court Judge Richard R. Cooch accepting an eighteen month period of probation and a $500.00 fine in lieu of a potential sentence of two years and thirty days incarceration and $2,875.00 fine. Friedman was also ordered to make restitution to the Delaware Division of Revenue for the balance due on these tax returns in the amount of $7,301.

An investigation conducted by the Delaware Division of Revenue’s Criminal Investigation Unit revealed that Friedman understated his income on his 1999 and 2000 personal income tax returns in an amount in excess of $210,000.00 and failed to file his 2001 State of Delaware personal tax return.
